JULIA ANN KLINK, PRESIDENT

JULIA ANN KLINK

Julia Klink and her husband, Nate, are both former students of East Holmes Local Schools.  They have 3 children:  a son who graduated from Hiland and 2 daughters who are currently attending East Holmes Schools.  The Klink family attends Grace Church and Julia also serves on the 58:12 Global Board.  Julia has been employed at Pomerene Hospital for 20 years, working in both bedside nursing and nursing leadership and is currently working in the role of Nurse Navigation.  "I truly love working and serving in the community in which I live and believe this is an opportunity to not only serve the community, but to also serve my children.  I believe our school district has an exceptional team that is dedicated to ensuring an environment that provides both high-quality education and extra-curricular opportunities for our students which assists in preparing them for the next step in their life's journey.  My goal is to support our entire team as we strive to continue providing the best possible environment for our children to learn and grow.  Education is a lifelong journey.  While the quote below references nurses, it is applicable to any career or profession."

JAMES GERTZ

JAMES GERTZ

James Gertz​ and his wife, Sharon, have 2 children who attended East Holmes schools and 6 grandchildren, 5 of who currently attend.  He served 38 years in public education, 17 as a HS math teacher and 21 as an Administrator at Plain Local Schools and SCESC.  He is currently an Adjunct Faculty member at Malone University, University of Mt. Union and Walsh University, serving in supervision of student teachers.  He and his wife were owners/operators of the Winesburg Restaurant from 1979-1988 and also previously served on the East Holmes Board of Education from 1986 to 1993.  He is also president of the Winesburg Area Development Corp. When asked his vision for the East Holmes School District he replied, "Obviously with my background, education is extremely important to me.  What we give our children in our families and in our schools will be our legacy to them.  Our schools provided outstanding opportunities for my children and are now doing the same for my grandchildren.  It is important to maintain the excellence we have in our schools in academics and extra-curricular activities, and maintain excellent programs in our schools for those attending through the 8th grade, those graduating from high school and preparing those who go on to college.  Finally, all this is important while maintaining fiscal integrity for the taxpayers in our community.  I feel honored to be able to serve our community.   Term expires 12/31/2023

LAUREL MILLER

LAUREL MILLER, VICE-PRESIDENT

Laurel Miller - Laurel and her husband, Robert, are both former students of East Holmes and currently reside in Walnut Creek.  They have two young children: a son, who attends school in the district and a daughter, who will begin Kindergarten in 2022.  Laurel is a licensed Physical Therapist and co-owner of Peak Physical Therapy & Wellness in Berlin.  She also serves on the Board of the Berlin Main Street Merchants and she and her family are active members of Grace Church.  "I believe that the school years are a crucial stepping stone in life.  My priority as a Board Member is to help ensure that our district provides the best educational opportunity to meet the needs of all children regardless of their chosen career path.  My goal is also to support policies in a manner that reflects the values and desires of our community and to work together to make decisions that are fiscally responsible.  I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the community and school district I love."  Term expires 12/31/2025

KYLE MILLER, VICE-PRESIDENT

Kyle Miller is a former student of East Holmes Local Schools.  Kyle and his wife, Kelly, have two sons who currently attend Hiland and a daughter who will be attending Berlin in 2020.  The Miller's attend Grace Mennonite Church.  Kyle is the Director of Millwork Manufacturing for Carter Lumber and owner of Tolloti Pipe, LLC.  Kelly is the High School Physical Education teacher for New Philadelphia City Schools.  "My wife's experience in education has had a huge impact in making me realize the value that teacher's bring our students on a daily basis.  East Holmes provided this guidance for me as a student and I see the value they provide currently for my children".  "My goal as a Board Member of East Holmes Local School District is to support administration and staff in any way needed, so that we can continue the success we experienced for some time now".  – Term Expires 12/31/2023

STEVE MILLER

STEVE MILLER

Steve Miller is a lifelong resident and former student of the East Holmes Local School District.  Steve and his wife, Wilma, have two daughters.  One is a 2014 graduate of Hiland and is currently attending Kent State University and the other is currently a student at Hiland.  The Millers attend Grace Mennonite Church and Steve is the President of Holmes Lumber.  Steve retired from East Holmes Fire & EMS after serving as a Paramedic for 23 years and leading the EMS division for 14 years.  "East Holmes Schools have a rich history of providing quality education to our students.  I experienced that and now my daughters are experiencing that.  My goal is that we maintain a high standard of education into the future, even though the process and the technology change over time.  Accomplishing this, while focusing on long term fiscal stability, will ensure that our students graduate with the tools they need to keep growing in their careers and lives.  To me, learning is a lifelong exercise.  As Martin Luther King Jr once said": 'The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically.  Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education'.  Term expires 12/31/2025
